The following is a list of collectable items other than books and photos I have in my own collection. There has been a deluge of Titanic items since James Cameron's Titanic, and it's mostly a case of which to buy first. I own all these items, so the reviews are my personal opinion of the product, of course your opinion may be different.

If you have a Titanic related item you would like to submit for this list, please e-mail me here.

Collectables

Titanic Coal:

This is a unique way to own a peice of Titanic. A small quarter size peice of coal that was actually on board the ship the night it sank. It doesn't look like much, but to hold it in your hand and realise what was happening around it that night is truely something. Comes with a certificate of authenticity. Available from RMS Titanic Inc.

Titanic Blueprint:

This is the official Titanic Blueprint being offered by RMS Titanic, Inc. The blueprint is an artist rendering of a profile of the starboard side of the R.M.S. Titanic and measures 50 in. Reproduction White Star Sextant

Limited release RMS Titanic Reproduction Brass Sextant. The ring-frame one I have is one of 25 made, and it is a beautiful addition to my Titanic collection. Although not accurate enough to be used for navigation, it is fully functional, though I won't be taking it on any boating trips! The quality of Stanley London's entire product line is exceptional and I very much doubt you'll find better pricing on these types of products. Good, solid brass reproductions, beautiful wood cases. I highly reccommend any Titanic or Maritime enthusiast visit their website. Click HERE for the Titanic page.

Titanic "Heart of the Ocean" Replica Necklace

With a price tag under $20. I wasn't expecting too much, but this is a nice, inexpensive costume reproduction. I would rate it as suitable for costume parties. Check here to order or view. There is a picture that shows what the necklace looks like. (M)

Probably the most recognizable item of Titanic memorabilia, the White Star Pennant. 3'X6' the bold white star is sewn on both sides of this familiar "burgee" or swallow tailed pennant. Made to last. Smaller versions, and other Titanic flags also a vailable Here. $56.89

IMM Stock Certificate

A very interesting and attractive collectable Titanic item, an original cancelled stock certificate for shares in International Mercantile Marine, the company that owned the Titanic. Attractive enough to frame. Commonly available for anywhere from $10 - 25$

Collectible Titanic Plate

Porcelain plate from the Bradford exchange. Very attractive. I paid around $41 CDN. First one out, Maiden Voyage.

1/1136 Die Cast Titanic

Manufactured by Claytown Collection Inc. Slightly larger than the Gilbow version, but doesn't come with the nice display case. It does come with a COA. $24.99 Cdn

AUDIO

Titanic Soundtack & Back To Titanic Soundtack

My preference is for the second, Back to Titanic, which contains some of the dialogue from the movie. James Horners haunting soundtrack was an integral part of the success of the movie. Available from Sony Music.

MULTIMEDIA

James Cameron's Titanic Explorer

A 3 CD Rom set for PC and Mac. The system requirements are pretty hefty, 200 mhz ppc or 166 mhz pentium. An excellent multimedia journey through the Titanic story, with many references to the movie, as well as a wealth of historical information. Includes a VR Tour of the set. Incredible, imaginative and flawlessly executed interface and visualization.

Titanic: Adventure Out of Time

3D Rendered video game. Nice graphics, tour of the ship. Cyberflix.

Titanic: An Interactive Journey

Produced by Europress in association with RMS Titanic Inc.

Relatively inexpensive at about $29. If you'll buy anything Titanic, go for it. Honestly, I have to delve into this one a bit more, but the overall design of this offering is very poor. There is some interesting video of the wreck and a recovered artifacts. Although the qtvr tour of the wreck is a really cool idea, it is badly executed. Much of the interface for the program is poorly conceived and executed. Finding French prompts in the installation program made this a bit awkward for me.

If you are only going to buy one Titanic CD Rom, do yourself a favor and shell out a bit more for Cameron's Explorer, above.

MODELS

Titanic Lifeboat

This extremely accurate reproduction of one of Titanic's lifeboats is a favorite item in my collection. Mounted on a wooden base, the 1:48 scale replica is perfect, from the metal davits down to the capacity marking on the bow. A very classy item for the serious collector. Available from www.maritimereplicas.com I Highly recommend this item!!

Titanic 1/350th Scale Model

I think the best Titanic model available. $89.Cdn Minicraft

Titanic 1/570th Scale Model

Smaller, less expensive Titanic model available. $19.Cdn Revell

VIDEOS

James Camerons Titanic

Price seems to vary greatly. Available from Paramount Home Video. 1998 Starring Leonardo Decaprio, Kate Winslet, Billy Zane. A faithful recreation of the Titanic and her short life. If you missed it at the theater, BUY IT! EVERYONE ELSE HAS! Running Time: really really long. I have both wide screen and standard

Titanic : Question of Murder & The Nightmare and the Dream

Boxed set. Running Time 53 & 56 minutes. 1983 Television South Inc.

Secrets of the Titanic: National Geographic Collectors Edition

Excellent movie. Narrated by Martin Sheen. Love the soundtrack.

Titanic: Treasure of the Deep

Narrated by Walter Cronkite. Nice photography. Running time 47 min.

Titanic Survivors

Front Row Entertainment. Although the majority of this video was 70s era interviews I had seen in most of my other videos, there was a bonus, a 1912 newsreel compilation showing Smith on the bridge, some features of the ship, the Carpathia in New York and some footage of the Olympic named as Titanic. I had seen a lot of this footage, but it was cool to have it all, unedited in one compilation. Running Time 41 minutes.

The Titanic: Special Addition

Narrated by Orson Wells & James Drury. Now this one is a bit unique, but valuable to the VERY serious Titanic enthusiast. It is unique because it chronicals Texas Oilman Jack Grimm's unsuccessful attempts to locate the wreck. It was produced before the wreck was found by Ballard et al, so it sounds very hopeful. In hindsite it looks kind of sad, but at the time must have been exciting. Its amazing how much difference a few years makes in technology.

PRINTED MATERIAL

Builders Plans

Copies of the original builders plans for the Titanic. Available from Harlaand and Wolff.

Note: H&W has recently released a number of excellent collectibles and reproductions. Watch for more details as they become available.

The Titanic Collection: Momentos of the Maiden Voyage

ISBN 0-8118-2052-1

This is a must have for the Titanic enthusiast. Since Titanic first disappeared, collectors have snapped up anything relating to the ship, and items are either very hard to find or very expensive. This collection of reproductions is the next best thing. Containing 21 reproductions of tickets, deck plans, postcards, menus and baggage stickers. The items themselves are reproduced wonderfully, down to the rust stain from staples in the deck plan. The only minuses were a surprising historical error or two in the collection guide. Regardless, reading items the passengers would have read presents a unique tie to the event. They are packaged in a small collectors box that is patterned after a travelers trunk. Well worth the $24.95 us price tag.

Titanic Calendars featuring the art of Ken Marschall

Beautifully Illustrated callenders, I have 1998 & 1999. $16.99 US Penguin Studio/Madison Press

Photographs of Jame's Cameron's Titanic Set

27 Photographs taken by an extra who worked on the set of the movie. The majority of the photos are from the Southampton Scene. The photographs themselves are exquisite, but I was even more taken with the printed material which accompanied them. A letter printed on specialty stock describing the Experience of working on the movie, and a detailed set of descriptions of the photos. Unique collectible. Available at Titanic Stuff.com

Titanic: Collectors Edition

36 page booklet, put out by National Geographic, containing full color photographs of Titanic. I bought this one in an E_Bay auction, as far as I know it is no longer available from National Geographic.
